Another mouse-hole in a museum of wonder.
Exploring the archives at the V&A.
The V&A London holds one of the world's most comprehensive modern & contemporary Japanese art collections. For Denham’s Spring collaboration timed to launch with the V&A’s book ‘Fashion & The Floating World’ with prints highlighting a vivid view of the culture of entertainment, style and glamour of the fashionable world of Edo-period Japan (1603-1868).
Depicting rarely seen woodblock prints from artists such as Utagawa Kunisada and Utagawa Kuniyoshi who inspired the collab. Including a spectacular skull printed kimono and a bird found in a small corner of wallpaper decorating a bedroom wall. Reimagined across a collection of loose fitting silhouettes, and lining the interior of indigo dyed selvedge denim with cool skull print.
Working together with the V&A license team, my role included Design. Direction. Storytelling. Production.

“Ali approached us with a clear love of the arts and deep appreciation for the creative and design process. His vision and passion for the project was apparent from day one and fuelled an inspiring collaboration that went beyond simply apparel and told a story of two design houses coming together.”
